Brazilian Embroidery Class with Expert Debbie Kelley

We are pleased to announce that Debbie Kelley, of DK Designs, will be teaching Brazilian Embroidery at SFQ Sep 28-30. Debbie, a native of New Mexico, now lives on the West Coast. She has created many beautiful designs using the Brazilian Embroidery thread technique which has a dimensional quality to it. Her designs range from roses to cacti to birds and many other things. Sign up soon to join this special class.

Sew Days Program Continues

The worldwide Sew Days Program began in June and continues until July 23, then we will repeat some of the classes. The projects are easy and fun for all sewers. You need only come to the classes you are interested in. You can choose a Table Runner, Stow & Go Tote, Tea Towel Apron, Quick Zip Bag, Card Case and Tool Organ. Sign up ahead of time to get your name on the classes you want.

Template Free Motion Quilting Class

Cindy Barfield has perfected this class to help quilters learn how to quilt using special templates and feet to do accurate free motion quilting. These classes meet monthly so Cindy can teach you more designs. It is one of the most popular classes we offer, and classes fill up quickly. A new session will start in November or December.

New Take on a Tuffet and Regular Tuffet Classes Offered

Candice Gillis is back to teach A New Take on a Tuffet, a larger, lighter and more affordable tuffet as well as Tuffet I & II which is the regular wooden leg version. These are great pieces of furniture to sit on or rest your feet on.

New & Old Favorite Classes              

Milly Young has created Wow! Cat Shower Curtain, a whimsical design using Kaffe fabrics to create a feline conversation piece for your bathroom. Choose your own theme fabric and sign up! She also offers Ka-Pow Quilt, a quilt she made with Kaffe fabric too! Folded Dresden Table Runner, with Jean Callaghan, can be used to make an elegant table runner or the beginning of a quilt. Jean also is back with One Fabric Kaleidoscope, which uses one material to create a wondrous design. Mary offers Collage, using Laura Heine animal or people patterns, but requires you to take the free Intro to Collage Class first. Nora Briggs will be back in September to teach Cactus Collage. Louise Heine offers Birch Bark, a strip quilt with a variation. Le Adams offers 15 Degrees, a beginner friendly pattern that teaches you how to use a 15-degree ruler. She also has Bladez, a popular class that uses a special ruler to create a star like pattern. Asian Antics, with Deb Martinez is equally beautiful with Asian fabrics or Kaffe! Diamond Braid is offered by Deb too.

Classes to Teach You How to Make Purses, Bags, Totes & Carry-Alls

Everyone is interested in creating special use bags and we are offering lots of ways to do that. The Hetty Hold All Bag offered by Cindy, is large but elegant. Also practical is her Open Wide Bag and Regina Boyer’s very roomy Poppins Bag. Louise Heine’s Cell Phone/Travel Purse is the perfect size to carry your phone and a credit card. Cindy’s I’ll Drink to That Wine Carrier holds 4 bottles or 2 bottles and 2 glasses. Perfect for tailgate parties or picnics. Cindy also offers Quick Zip Bag, which can be large or small and teaches you how to do zippers.

New Fabric is Arriving Regularly

Now in is Maplewood by Northcott, with fall color and green maple leaves and backgrounds using their Stonehenge style. We just received new Japanese taupe fabrics and other Japanese designs. More are scheduled all summer. Soon more Christmas fabrics will arrive as will a variety of Halloween prints. Later, In the Beginning Fabrics will include Diaphanous and Garden Delights, both lines that include blenders with aspects of flowers and leaves. Moda’s Grunge Seeing Stars comes in August and new batiks arrive nearly every week. Also expected in August is a new line of southwest fabrics.

We Have Lots of Kits Too

Just in is Zen Chic’s White Christmas, a modern design with elegantly stated trees. We also have Mega Star and Star in a Star by the same designer. On the ramp find Soundwavez a Patternworkz design and Diamonds are Forever. One each of Hoffman’s Humming Bird Lane and Supernova Spiral are still available.

Patterns & Willow Brook Quilts Show

We have several quilts on loan from Viv Smith of Willow Brook Quilts including Ombre Overload, Stormy Weather and Playing in the Japanese Garden (aka Stacked on the Side.) She has patterns for beginners and intermediate quilters. Also new is Birch Bark, a jelly roll pattern we found in Sisters, OR and several new Patternworkz patterns. Look for them in our New Pattern basket on the lower cutting table.

Several Clothing Classes Offered

Burnside Bibs, a new class offered by Lorraine Gruys is a great introduction to creating clothing for new sewers. It is an all-day class, so you should be close to finished when it is time to leave. Lorraine also offers Drafting a Pattern from a Favorite Shirt or Blouse, which is not for beginners, but will teach more skilled sewers how to use their favorite blouse or shirt as a pattern.

It’s Never-To-Late to Join our Block of the Month Classes

Sylvia Pippin Sashiko and Hand Applique offered by Lea Armstrong, uses flower patterns by Pippin. Prerequisite: Cindy’s Hand Applique and Lea’s Sashiko beginner class. Just Takes Two with Mary, is a traditional block pattern using one neutral and one color.

Beginning Skill Classes Offered and Cancellations Explained

We have lots of classes for beginners including Beginning Machine Piecing, Hand Quilting, Hand Applique’, Free Motion and Binding. Check out our classes online, then come in or call and sign up. You must pay for the class when you sign up. Most classes need two or more students to be taught and classes with one student or less will be cancelled 48 hours before the class is scheduled to occur. You will be given a refund or store credit if you are signed up for a class that doesn’t have enough students. If you need to cancel your attendance in a class, you must do this 48 hours before the class occurs or you will forfeit your fee.
