Katie Pasquini Masopust to Speak & Teach at SFQ

Nationally recognized quilt artist, Katie PM will talk about her newest work and her new line of fabric Dec 13 at SFQ. Sign up for a seat! The following day she will teach Katie’s Wonky Log Cabin and/or Applique’. She will be blending tradition and art for this class, but you can choose one or the other for your quilt. We will have her new line of fabric in the store by then and her class samples have already arrived. Sign up soon, because this is likely to be a popular day long class.

Stuff Your Stocking Sale!

Our annual holiday call-in sale is set for Dec 1-7 this year. Cindy Barfield, is in charge of setting up this sale, which has different discounted offers each day. The daily specials are offered for just 24 hours. At the end of the event our staff will wrap your purchases for you. You can pick-up your wrapped gifts at the store after Dec 18 or we can mail them to you. Sign up ahead of time if at all possible, it really helps our staff.

Repurpose Advent Calendar

Fabric to Create Unusual Gifts

Nora Briggs, our occasional instructor from Tucson, offers a class to use Advent Calendar fabric to create wine totes, and gift tags in addition to calendars. Sign up for Pushing the Panel.

Tote, Bag & Clothing Classes

Regina Boyer offers Side Handle Gusset Tote, which allows you to create a bag adding touches of Sashiko stitching as does Modern Japanese Rice Pouch, an easy and cute drawstring bag. She also offers her popular Poppins tote. Lorraine Gruys offers Cowl Neck Blouse, a nice winter blouse; Frankie Shirt, a loose-fitting shirt/blouse and Beginner Vest Follow Up Class. Cindy offers the whimsical Sloth Oven Mitt that resembles a sloth!

We Have Lots of Upcoming Classes!

BQ 5 and Somersault are two new classes offered by Julee Coffman. BQ 5 is a great way to incorporate focal fabrics, while Somersault uses gentle curves within blocks. Three Squared, with Kathy Tolbert, is a beginner friendly class. Storm at Sea with Le Adams uses the Jodi Barrows “Square in a Square” technique to make this timeless pattern. Cindy has Modern Dahlia, a small project that will challenge your applique’ skills and her popular Making a T Shirt Quilt. Zuni, a fun modern quilt and Square-in-a-Square Sampler are offered by Louise Heine. Back by popular demand is Fran Holden’s Blue Onion. Homeward Migration, offered by Milly Young, uses flying geese and piecing skills to create a stunning design. Her Rings Revival creates a fun modern quilt.   Dana Hollifield has simplified her award winning Contemporary Lonestar for this intermediate level class. Chinese Magic, one of our best-selling patterns, and Tropical Turnover, which uses partial log cabin blocks with half square triangles are offered by Deb Martinez. Mary offers 3-D Look Quilt and Beginning Machine Piecing. Candace Gillis has a Tuffets Class and Susan Clarkson offers Fabric Caddies.

Beginner and Intermediate Template Free Motion Classes

Cindy teaches how to use special templates and feet for doing accurate and stunning free motion quilting. The Intermediate level is new and open only to graduates of the Beginner course. You will focus on only one quilt and pattern each month.

1895 Batik Fat Quarter Club

Pay a small membership fee and attend a monthly meeting with demos and new patterns and notions. Buy the next month’s fabric at a discount or pass: 12 batik fat quarters/bundle. Discounts increase as you buy more bundles. Meetings are monthly on a certain Monday or Saturday. Start anytime and experience varied teachers.

Quilt Market and New Fabric

Mary and Cindy attended the International Quilt Market in Houston recently and ordered lots of new fabrics. Arriving soon are Color Master Elements FQ Bundles from Art Gallery Fabrics. A perfect way to add to your stash or for a gift, Just in are textured Japanese cottons and linens and Andover’s Spectrastic by Giucy Giuce, new solid basics with tiny black or white specks of color and Tula Pink’s Sunrise Kit. More Tula Pink and Kaffe Fassett   lines are due next year. Bright batiks arrive nearly every week including a bright new line by Northcott.

Topsy Turvy Neighborhood BOM

Nicole Dunn’s new whimsical house themed BOM began in October and is sold out. A second BOM will begin in Feb. Sign up if you are interested. Patterns are available at SFQ. Learn or increase your skills in embroidery, free motion techniques with snippets and other methods. Nicole is a quilt artist from Los Alamos. She also is offering Scrappy Hearts, using postage stamp size squares to create a stunning heart.

Wool Jacket Sale & Presentation

Karin Hedstrom, a Scandinavian designer, creates cozy wool jackets and will talk about her process on Sunday, Dec 15 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at SFQ. She will offer her jackets for sale afterwards. This is a free class, but, sign up so we know how many are coming.

Kathy Tolbert Class on Dec 31

Her For Mary Quilt is a simple and beautiful strip quilt and will be offered from 10-4 on the last day of the 2019. Kathy is a creative Santa Fe pattern designer, quilter and teacher. Sign up soon to end your year by making a simple and great looking quilt!

On Thursdays we will close at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. this quarter. We will close at 3 p.m. on Wed, Nov 27; closed on Nov 28 for Thanksgiving; 4 p.m. on Tue, Dec 24; closed on Dec 25 for Christmas and Jan 1, 2020 for New Year’s Day.

We have a wide variety of patterns including Ann Shaw’s large pieced wall hanging designs: Summer Smile, a large sunflower; Barnyard Queen, a colorful chicken; and The Raven. From Saginaw Street Quilts we have Longview, which resemble windows; and In a Nutshell and Inversion. Find these on our lower cutting table.
